Day 3 is coming!  I've already exceeded my xanga updates for '08 but I'm pushing on.

Preview of pics to come...Louvre!

Another must see for us was the Palace of Versailles.

A little History...
It was originally built by King Louis the 14th in 1682.  Building the palace was said to have cost France a quarter of the ENTIRE country's income for one year.  After the French Revolution, many of the original pieces were stolen or damaged.   Much of the Palace is still being restored.

Incidently, Marie Antoinette, Queen of France during the French Revolution, played by Kirsten Dunst in the movie "Marie Antoinette" was found guilty during the revolution and beheaded right by our hotel at the Place de la Concorde.

Anyhow...
You have to take a train to get to Versaille.  It's about 30 minutes outside of Paris.  Get there early because there are long lines!  This is definitely a full day trip because there is so much to see but WELL worth it!  On to the pics...

Pic Below: Day 2 of Paris! - Welcome to Versaille

Pic Below:  I'll tell you it's no white picket fence.  It's like someone shines up the gold gate everyday. (I know the left side looks dark.  It was a cloudy day.)

Pic Below: What does every house need ...a place to reflect and pray.  The Royal Chapel.  It's huge.  Look at the person walking by on the left side of the frame.

Pic Below: Mirrors were really rare and expensive back in the day.  Result = Hall of Mirrors (The entire left side is mirrors and not windows!)

Pic Below:  The Queen's bedroom. There is a hidden door in the corner near the jewel cabinet (it's open in this picture) through which Marie Antoinette escaped the night of October 5th, 1789 when the Paris mob stormed Versailles.

Pic Below: Each hall way is so different in color and architecture.

Pic Below: Family room

Pic Below:  Definitely get the audio guides.  They take you through each room.  All you have to do is type in the number when entering each room.

Pic Below:  The gardens and fountains are amazing.  The gardens stretch for as far as you can see.  Imagine this being your backyard!  Interesting fact, the main fountain is not powered by any pumps.  It is actually naturally powered by water flowing from the Seinne river!  How smart!

You'll see Christine, Moses, and Joyce running away from me on the bottom right of the frame because it was too cold.

Pic Below:  Every tree is perfectly manicured.  Christine wanted to take one home.  I wonder if they make Xmas trees.

Pic Below:  Marie Antoinette's own estate within the Versaille grounds.  I couldn't make it because the group didn't want to make the walk.  I'm not still bitter or anything.

Pic Below:  Bonsoir!
After a long day, we reserved this night as our fancy traditional french meal.  I'd also like to call it my 400 ramen meal.  The food was amazing from the froi gras to the duck.

Pic Below:  2 asian tourists we met.

Au revoir!

Up next the Louvre, Notre Dame, and the Eiffel Tower at Night!!!

Side of Ratatouille

I will be taking you through our trip as if you were walking next to us.  I know you don't want to see 50 pictures of Christine and me so the bulk of pics will be of Paris and Rome.  I hope you enjoy it.

Day 1 - Paris
Pic Below: What is a trip summary without a picture in the plane!

Pic Below: The very famous Champ Elysees!  We hit the streets running!  What is not pictured is the 30 minute rain / wind storm that we got caught in.  Our jeans were soaked!  It was definitely the low point of the trip.

Pic Below: We had to check out THE institution for pastries, Laduree (founded in 1862).  I was also scolded for taking a picture of their bread and butter product.  No pun intended.  I also ate my first Croissant (#1 of 43)

Pic Below: On to our first sight, Arc de Triomphe which is at the beginning of the Champ Elysees.  We also bumped into a male model on the streets.

Pic Below:  We had to walk up the stairs at the Arc de Triomphe as shown by the diagram.

Pic Below:  Can you say stairmaster?  After climbing the stairs, one could say we might have not been in the best shape.

Pic Below:  Once at the top, it really is amazing how they laid out the streets.

Pic Below:  Our Travel buddies, the Yoons, on top of the Arc de Triomphe.

Pic Below:  Choi's on the Arc de Triomphe

Pic Below:  Paris has alot of amazing views where you just have to sit back and absorb it all in.

Pic Below:  As I'm trying to shoot Christine, there's some commotion in the background.  Moses Incident #1

Pic Below:  One of the funniest pics, Joyce captures the moment before offering a hand.  Moses calls her out.  hahaha  (He was fine by the way)

Pic Below:  The Paris public transportation is the best in the world (IMHO).  We walk out of the Trocadero metro station to see this!

Pic Below:  Right next to us was a very convenient Crepe place.  Nutella Crepe #1

Pic Below:  Our most sought out sight for the trip.

Pic Below:  Oh la mour (I don't know what that means but it sounds like it would fit this picture)

Pic Below:  Stopping by to get some fruit and supplies at a cute little market while on our way to dinner.

Pic Below:  Dinner #1 - Appetizer - We had to try the French Onion Soup at this Brasserie.  Let me just say it surpassed all of my expectations.  I normally don't like it but this one was amazing!!!

Pic Below:  Interesting fact - Wine is actually cheaper than Diet Coke!

Pic Below: We get out of dinner and around the corner was this amazingly beautiful building.  We found out later that it was called Hotel de Ville.  It is the location of the City of Paris's administration since 1357.

Pics Below:  Enjoying the ice skating rink in the middle of a square by Hotel de Ville.

Pic Below: Ending a very long day at a street side Cafe.  What a great day and start to our trip!!!  Christine was so happy.

I can't believe we did all this in one day.  Thanks Joyce and Moses for being great travel buddies and taking some great shots.  We already miss hanging out with you guys!

Bonjour!

We're back from Paris and Rome!  We have about 2000+ pictures to go through and piles of mail to sort.  We'll be posting up our best of Europe pics and hopefully a funny story or two.

We'd like to thank our travel buddies, the Yoons, for providing some jokes and lots of laughter. =)  Thanks Joyce for taking some great pictures.  Thank you Moses for marrying Joyce.

I'd also like to thank my newest toy, the ultra wide angle Canon EF-S 10-22mm F3.5-4.5.  It totally met my expectations!

Trip report is still under construction.  Pictures to come...

Wow Xanga is all different now.  It took me 3 minutes to find out how to make a new post.

It is time for some well-deserved vacation time!  No school, no work, just quality "us" time.  I was debating whether or not to put up the christmas tree this year.  It's such a pain to dig everything up out of storage and then it usually stays up until february because no one wants to take it down.  And with finals, I barely had time to send out Christmas cards.  But with only 3 days left 'till Christmas, we decided we need more holiday cheer in the house.  So it's up!  Check out these time lapse photos Ben took:

The last one is what I would look like as a ghost.. hehe.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
